Common courtesy what's that again ? in 20 years time i wouldn't be surprised if schools start teach it to kids

I model it every day for my fourth graders. I actively teach it as well. In the past my students would just 'get it' from my actions, now I have to take it a step further. Courtesy and manners are as essential as the curriculum.

O agreed. Good to hear this. I always thought this was the parents job to ensure their kids have the best chance when they grow up. #timeshavechanged

I agree that it should be part of parental responsibility, but unfortunately it doesn't always happen. As teachers, we try to fill in the gap whenever possible. Even with my fourth graders I try to set the scene for their futures. Promote work ethic, active citizenry, & empathy.

My Dad always said "Thank you" for everything, even just when you passed the salt at the table. And he said it with gusto and eye contact every time! Loved it. Such a grateful man for all things big and small. Common courtesy matters.

My family says thank you at home, "thank you for cooking dinner" "thank you for doing the dishes," etc. We say thank you 2 waiters, store clerks & people holding doors. I recently visited NYC & said thank you there, people seemed surprised. Maybe we should all say thank you more.

When I was dating, I always said thank you for buying my dinner, lunch or coffee etc.. I was surprised to hear that most people don’t? Just because you say yes to the date doesn’t entitle you to forget your manners or your money. Dignity people.

“Thank you” is a wonderful word. Many people feel happy when others tell them this ward. Saying “Thank you” is the best way to show your respect.
