Prosecutors are increasingly treating overdose deaths as homicides, but they aren’t just going after dealers. Friends, family and fellow users are going to prison.https://nyti.ms/2GRlyYW

The prosecutors should go after the opioid manufacturers too.

What they should do is stop using prosecution as a substitute for treatment.

can we do the same with not securing your guns? are parents, grandparents who leave guns available for kids to use not complicit in the crime?

How about prosecuting Big Pharma for creating unsafe product, knowing about its lethality AND hiding it from FDA while pushing docs to prescribe them willie nilly?

No it makes them sick, here's an idea, sentence them to a treatment program for 15-20 years, we need to build hospitals and treatment centers not prisons or walls to fight the opioid epidemic

Truth is the opioid epidemic was Docs over subscribing in the late 90s early 2000s, and I guarantee that it's hit everyone's home in America in someway whether it u, a sibling. a parent, a grandparent, a child, or aunt/uncle. I hope somethings done to help people not punish them

That's not the answer. Decent rehab w/o a waiting list is paramount.

Because, throwing substance abusers in jail has a statistically documented success rate at ending addiction & improving individuals futures. Or, in reality, just fills the vacancies in the for profit prison system. Wouldn't want to miss the opportunity for someone to make a buck.

They need treatment. Unless they forced another person to take drugs, they should not be culpable. You know.....free will.

If I died doing drugs with a loved-one because we were both drug addicts there is no way in hell I'd want them charged with a crime. I'd just want them helped.

This is how Jeff Sessions views EVERYTHING in life. How is this even surprising? You either vote them out or this is your future. Simple as that.

So, if my father happened to be in the house and I OD'ed, he would be charged with homicide? Even though he would have had nothing to do with it?
