This part of the OLC opinion briefly summarizing what is and isn’t contained in the whistleblower complaint is, I believe, the most detailed official description to date. https://www.justice.gov/olc/file/1204586/download …pic.twitter.com/aS3O2Xq37J

The OLC opinion also says that someone—who implicitly determined that the IC whistleblower complaint was a “credible complaint of alleged criminal conduct”—referred the whistleblower complaint to DOJ’s criminal division for review.pic.twitter.com/rp26X4KeNi

This part relates that the ICIG was concerned about safeguarding elected officials from foreign compromise. That could explain the reference in the ICIG’s letters to Schiff regarding “one of the most significant and important of the DNI’s responsibilities to the American people.”pic.twitter.com/77EGh4nI6c

It says what the complaint arises from, not what’s contained in it?

Is it necessarily a description of what is/isn't contained when they repeatedly say it "arises out of" in both cases? Like, if the complaint arises just out of this phone call, but came to include multiple phone calls/other documents, would they have described this differently?

In other words, this was never even an appropriate invocation of the whistleblower statute. That was just a device used to leak a spun version of a phone call between two heads of state as a political hit.

Diplomatic communications (esp. b/w POTUS and other heads of state) aren't just sitting around like mints in a dish. Getting something like this "secondhand" is quite a coup.

It occurs to me, we had been debating “intelligence activity” for this without knowing that Trump brought up Crowdstrike and the Russia investigation on his call. Funny that that isn’t related to intelligence work.

Does "secondhand" mean that someone in the IC heard about these communications from other US officials, or does it mean the IC heard the Ukrainians discuss how they're being extorted by POTUS?

Based on the first paragraph's description, it is the former.
