If Maggie gets a scoop we also need to consider which member of the president’s family wants this story out.

The article is written entirely from Giuliani's framing of obstruction and Mueller's end result, has no quotes from Giuliani or Sekulow bashing McGahn for cooperation, and we're supposed to accept at face value Trump didn't know McGahn's role? Bullshit. The whole thing is PR.

@emptywheel hits on something that bugged me from the@nytimes article. McGahn is the lawyer for the Presidency, not Trump.@nytimes takes *someone's* claim of attorney/client privilege at face value, when Trump/McGahn don't have the usual privilegehttps://twitter.com/nycsouthpaw/status/1030924173613391873 …Thanks. "regular features of Maggie and Mike’s stories on what White House lawyers tell them to say, that are pure PR. First (because people on Twitter never understand this point), Maggie and Mike repeat something that Rudy Giuliani appears to have them chanting in their sleep,..."

This is by far the most accurate analysis I've read of the Times piece. I find all of the "game over" takes on it incredibly naïve.

If Don McGahn is the hero of democracy in the narrative, you can be assured its total BS

what did you think about the certainty of the statement in the column "Mr. Mueller has told the president’s lawyers that he will follow Justice Department guidance that sitting presidents cannot be indicted." I didn't think this was known for sure and was just Rudy yapping.

So either McGahn, Ghouliani, or maybe Dowd leaked this story to them. The 'will trump sit for questions' stuff is boring, he's not gonna do it, and yet somewhere some dope is breathlessly asking about it.

McGahn didn't volunteer to 'cooperate'. From Sept 2017:http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/350006-priebus-mcgahn-hire-lawyer-amid-mueller-probe-report …

According to
@waltshaub McGahn’s no good guy. He is using Trump for his own interests in dismantling the government and he’s smarter logistically than Trump. McGahn’s trying to use Trump’s sloppiness to his own advantage.Thanks. Twitter will use this info to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
