There’s a good chance that Italy will be run by a fascist government after next week’s elections. This isn’t exaggeration or rhetorical overstatement: the party that’s heir to Mussolini’s political movement is literally poised to win. Dark days ahead.

Most non-runners don't realize just how vast the gaps are between these times. 5:10-per-mile marathon pace might sound sorta similar to 5:50 marathon pace. But it's a total world away.

Tigist Assefa won women's Berlin Marathon in 2:15. Her previous best was 2:34. This is ///bananas///.
I've run a few 2:34s and I can't run two miles at 2:15 pace. For her to have the courage to start at that pace, and then hold it for 26.2, is awesome.

Another distinction: people should remain *active and creative* as long as they can. Cf R Angell, J Didion etc
But in "zero-sum" jobs--if you have it, no one else can--should step aside.
Eg king. SCOTUS.
