Translating Kim Hyesoon's "Thus Spoke n't", I initially thought of the form she was using to the same as lyric essay. But then, deeper I got into the text, it became obvious that this wasn't right. In her Afterword, the poet elliptically dances around a definition of her form:

If we call this work poetry, then poetry will get mad. If we call this prose, prose will get mad. Poetry rises higher than this, and prose reaches and spreads to lower places. This is minus-poetry, minus-prose. I wondered if I should call this not-poetry-not-prose, or po-prose, because I felt I was insulting both poetry and prose if I called my work either of those things. I have always thought that there are things only poetry can express, and things only prose can express. However, this time I wanted to invent a genre that hangs between those two genres. These words were written by someone who gets more anxious the more they observe themselves. These words are words of a person who is the personification of ennui and loneliness. These words are words of the one who called such a person “I.” These words don’t have genres, instead they are written in longing for the country of poetry that exists far away in the unknown, in the constellation furthest from Aerok

In 2014, @PoetKimHyesoon , the grand dame of Korean poetry, blogged anonymously for 8 months. Her persona was 않아 (ahn-ah), a personification of an adjunctive negation phrase in Korean. I finished my first translation of this blog in book form, titled "Thus Spoke n't." (1/4)
