There are tons of exciting things happening at & we're hiring! If you know a Unity dev or a (brick & mortar) architect interested in immersive tech, let us know. We compensate overtime, offer great benefits & are open to remote work. More at numena.de/jobs.

I love how is starting her course with challenging the fundamental nature of reality. And she's like 'let's assume this is true, but also lots of people have good arguments for this not being true!' This is already better than any philosophy course I took in college.

I'm ridiculously happy right now that two of my favorite people in XR, the amazing & , are joining me in this (totally free) workshop! Come as well, we have SO MUCH to talk about!

One of the most exciting and provocative thinker/developers in the VR/AR space is teaching next week. I just applied for a spot in this #Free workshop.

Give a🥇for giving one of the most provocative, interdisciplinary, and accessible talks about WHAT XR DOES TO US 🐙- do yourself a favor and soak up this talk (it's only 45 min long - skip to min 13 when she begins) 👏 #VR #AR #XR #CognitiveNeuroscience #IAmAOctopus

I laid out in the open the ontological & cognitive assumptions at the base of my framework for VR. If you watch a video of mine, I hope it's this one. Was an honor to have this conversation w @liquidizer, Ken Perlin, Bob Horn & many other people I admire. youtube.com/watch?v=4YO-iC

VR is about relocating presence. Galileo took us closer to the moon w the telescope. The phone brought someone's voice next to our ear. But VR is taking us to a location that's not on earth. It's in the space of human imagination, now buildable, shareable & strangely persistent.

This article is a journey through architecture, cognitive neuroscience & tech that reaches a conclusion at the heart of our work : VR will not just change design workflows & the spaces that result from that. It could also profoundly change you, the designer.

"When you visualize a building in #VR, and you’re showing it to clients, #architects, or engineers, VR gives you the ability to show people something that they couldn’t have imagined in their heads just by looking at drawings..." -@andreeavr of @numenavr spatialreality.io/vr-makes-you-a

How does this make file browsing more efficient? It doesn't. That is not what we are testing. Things we are interested in here: - use of spatial memory as opposed to semantic memory for file retrieval; - interacting with abstract entities as if they were embodied objects.

Experimenting with embodied interfaces & 3D menus: the file browser as interactive spatial experience in its own right. #vr Landing page finally done so if you want to give this a try: numena.design

Is this a little dystopian? Absolutely. The idea that 3D menus should be sanitized, feel-good environments is ludicrous to me. Spaces are messy things. They stir emotions, reflect assumptions, trigger associations. They're playgrounds for action & imagination, not backgrounds.

The amazing file browser of the already impressive Numena Design app!!!!. I want to tell you that the VR experience is just unbelievable, a must try. Go to the page Andreea provided for more information.

This is what I’ve been waiting to see!! We think with hands, bodies, and things. When the these environments engage the full dynamism of our embodiment, incorporating abstract thought, spatial cognition, and high dimensional models, then we will see *everything* shift.

If I'm going to be frustrated looking for a file on my computer I'd much rather do it in a cool dystopian THX 1138 library simulation!

My not-so-secret belief is that immersive tech can help us think differently, not just faster or more accurately. So it's a qualitative, not just quantitative difference we are pursuing . Keynote for Munich: an overview of our latest work in immersive interfaces.

Interactions outside the comfort zone of the hands are uncomfortable & lack precision. We found that visualizing the relationship b/w hand & gizmo made a big difference (line connecting dial w laser). The logic of the operation is more transparent & cognitive control is restored.
