My own article in the issue became a critical bridge in my forthcoming book—the bridge between a tech design paradigm of "implicit feudalism" and "democratic erosion" at a global scale. I couldn't have made that connection without this excuse to go deep on the Californian Id—.
My co-editors, Andreas Hepp and Anne Schmitz of Bremen, add to that with a really helpful exploration of "pioneer communities" in tech culture—a crucial part of that process by which tech-enabled gentrification transfers from community to capital.
