Why is it @nswpolice call these firearms "semi-automatic rifles" when the same firearm in the hands of an appropriately licensed (Cat. D) civilian firearm owner you call them "assault weapons". The answer of course is... fear mongering! #nswpol

Funny that in the hands of cops these firearms are simply a "semi-automatic firearm". But in the hands of a licensed firearm owner they are "deadly rapid-fire assault weapon". Straight out of the

Not sure this development is warranted. I can understand the need if threat assessments predicted numerous incidents of weapons mismatch but the reality is LEOs don't face offenders with long arms on the streets of NSW.

They hardly have to use there pistols. Or is something else going on we are not told about.

This must surely prove, once and for all, that Australia’s “tough gun laws” have failed. Licenced (police approved) sports shooters and hunters in Canada, NZ, Switzerland etc have ready access to similar rifles, with no crime problems. Let’s do same in Australia.

Yep, 8 shots in 8 seconds AND a "lever" is just too much firepower - even for NSW cops!
