No offense meant to others, but I can pretty much guarantee that our massive GOTY show that just dropped has the most diverse, interesting picks of any you'll listen to. Also found here: mastodon.gamedev.place/@eggplantshow/

I well realize it's a privilege to be able to buy music and give up some convenience. But if you're in a position to do so, my point is that it's given me a MORE fulfilling, healthier relationship with these things, AND I'm not supporting giant, awful companies. So yeah.

I buy 95% of my music on , which has a great streaming app, but I just plop it in iTunes Match and can listen from anywhere. And only being able to stream music I've bought has also given me an even deeper, more fulfilling relationship with it this year.

As for Spotify, I realize this is a tougher one to give up for most people. But I just can't abide supporting a company that treats artists so poorly while partnering with toxic pundits who are actively making the planet worse.

It sounds silly, but it's been kind of transformative, and I've discovered a lot of cool corners of Oakland that I never would have otherwise. And yes, you sacrifice SOME convenience/savings, but for me its been negligible, and any positive commitment comes with some sacrifice.

Giving up Amazon has been kind of amazing. Now if I need to get something, I find a nearby local store that has it, and go there. I see new places, meet new people, and participate in my local economy! And if I still need something truly fast, there are lots of other options.

I guess I'm giving up Twitter for the new year, which is a hard pill to swallow for lots of reasons. But for 2022 I gave up Amazon and Spotify, and it's been pretty great! I highly encourage trying either. Some brief thoughts:

Last chance to back some phenomenal tabletop games, with some clear-ass rules that I did proofreading for!

Our project has been funded 500%, and we got over 1,000 backers! That's fantastic, thank you very much indeed. There are only 24 hours to go, so don't miss your chance to get our games! #kickstarter #boardgames #funbrickseries #itten kickstarter.com/projects/itten

Every tweet feels gross now but I'll promote the podcast a final time... I forced myself to be social and did some fun interviews at Day of the Devs! Also if you're looking for a kind, clever games community to hang out in, may I recommend our Discord? discord.com/invite/eggplant

Ep. 103: Day of the Devs Special We (well, Nick) stops by the annual @dayofthedevs event in San Francisco, and chats to a bunch of lovely devs about the games they're showing there, their biggest design challenges, and what it feels like making games in the cursed year of 2022.

If you love indie games, now might be the time to follow your favourite small studios on discord and instagram, sign up to their mailing lists, etc, because if this site goes down, it will not be an amusing shit show to them, it'll be potentially disastrous

in my early to mid 20s I dated a baker who once told me w a straight face that all bakeries can and always have been able to ‘copy and paste’ pastries *remotely* into our homes without destroying the original baked good in their inventory, and sometimes I still think about that

If Twitter still exists when they add Photo Mode to God of War I’m going to tweet so many goddamn pictures of Kratos’ teeth

I feel like my posts here are numbered, so I'll spend one to ask: Are any semi-experienced games folks out there looking for Developer Relations-type jobs? I've had a few platforms/pubs ask me if I know anyone, recently.
