I've had my Kindle Paperwhite for ~9 years and it still works well. Remarkable device.
or maybe reading books just just extremely easy relative to other personal computer tasks

Kindles are ludicrously durable. I had one from... 2009? which was literally my oldest electronic device. I think it finally died in 2017, and Amazon promptly gave me a credit that ~covered a brand new Paperwhite.

Amazing. I might get a new one just for the faster page refresh and bc the battery is getting iffy (only lasts 2-3 days instead of a week)

Yeah, I was so impressed that I bought a relatively high-end one (paying about the cost of a cheap one after the credit) and it was a worthy upgrade.
