I just realized that this is my tenth year of living in the US. 🤯
I mean I intellectually knew that the number after nine is ten, but still, it snuck up on me.

I think part of it is that Canada and the US are so similar. I never experienced serious culture shock, just a slow accumulation of somewhat different cultural norms. Combined with the subtle-but-ever-present legal hassles and the whole thing has a bizarrely timeless quality.

I guess one break in the timelessness was maybe three or so years ago when I realized that "home" felt at least as foreign as the US used to. Now both places just feel subtly but definitively odd. 🙃
