People-management (like what no-adjective "managers" do) is similarly underrated by individual contributor-types. Sure, there are plenty of useless managers in the world, but a really good manager is a massive force-multiplier on a team.

I actually suspect that (good) management is, like, the key limiting factor in most organizations. "Why can't you just scale this up?" is usually answered by "we have no way of managing that many people."
