This feels like a remarkably general strategy to help people do things that they "should" rationally do, but don't. Be a pal, hold their hand, listen to them kvetch, whatever they need.

I've been hearing stories of people who aren't vaccinated simply because of fear of needles —yes, they *know* the rational arguments—and also stories of people whose loved ones helped them get it done: take them there, hold their hand, anti-anxiety meds, breathe-in, breathe-out.

It’s closely related to “Ugh fields”. Two people trading tasks can do much much better than not, even if each person is actually worse at the other person’s task.
