People by in large are way too risk avoidant when it comes to their life choices. Most of y'all are bright & well off enough that the downsides of most traditionally "risky" things (quit your job! marry young! move across the country!) are likely way smaller than you think.

I know plenty of miserable CS grad students who should probably just drop out and go get comfy software engineering jobs, and also plenty of bored software engineers who should consider taking a year off to learn things (and maybe even do grad school).
