I'm doubtful principals will allow them. Fire hazard, tripping hazard. If it were this easy, it likely would have been done already.

Do you have a sense for why this would be a fire hazard? Most air filters are pretty low power (at most a few hundred Watts, comparable to a few old-school incandescent lightbulbs). Or is there something else I'm missing?

Classrooms in my district are already pretty small and tightly packed. There's no way you'd get away with blocking any aisle within that confined space. Not to mention, many schools haven't seen a proper electrical update since the were built in the 50's 60's and 70's.

Machines not built for the level of use it would take in a school. Not rated for commercial (school setting) Same reason self contained coffee units are not allowed in some staff rooms. Home use is not same compared to number of time be used over a day. Terribly simple analogy.

Let me see if I have this right: do you think that the machine would break down faster in a commercial/school setting than in a home, even with similar amounts of use? I'm not sure that there would be a difference in how much use it gets (my home filters run 24/7).

I also looked at filters explicitly marketed for commercial use and they do seem to have somewhat different features (e.g., more modular components for easier maintenance), but the sizes and power usage is basically the same. Did I misunderstand your point?

I just glanced at your bio. I'm envious. You live in the most educated state in the US & I believe Nevada is down bouncing around 47-50. We're home to the 5th largest school district in the country, Clark County School District. Red tape nightmare. We aren't sending our best.

I've been very lucky in life, but I see fancy institutions make the same mistakes. Everything I'm hearing points to "red tape nightmare" being the issue and it breaks my heart. I've been trying to understand the problem just in case there's anything I can do - one never knows!
