@mjtsai Could have to do with the file mix. Will test with some sequential transfers this weekend to make sure everything is working. -
@nriley I would think USB 3’s advantages would show for random I/O. I think that’s what I’ve seen, and how it worked for FireWire vs. USB 2.

@nriley That’s usually it for spinning disk – if IOPs is around 100 (laptop drive) to 150 (desktop/server) you’re probably saturated. -
@acdha Yeah, I should figure out a way to monitor IOPs (is iostat reliable?) -
@nriley iostat shows what the kernel does so it’s reliable on normal hardware (some RAID/SAN kit buffers: 100k IOPs blips before blocking) -
