Nothing at the distro level is going to make people migrate from Windows. Only an effective or superior Office Suite (as compared to MS Office) can make that migration possible.

There already is one - Libre Office. It's not made any difference. This is not because alternative equivalent software is not available. It's because: 1. Proprietary software lock data into proprietary formats 2. No one on Windows wants to seriously make an effort to move away

That is my point. Libre Office is miles behind MS Office from a user's perspective. For point 2., there has to be something superior in the product to move away. Linux distros may perhaps be better than Windows (doubt it with Win10), but office and other s/w just not good enough

That's exactly what I meant when I said that Windows users don't really want to make any kind of half serious effort to move away from Windows.

Have been using Ubuntu and LM for years now. Instead of blaming the users for their alleged lack of seriousness, why not create something which is irresistible? People will shift. But sadly, doesn't happen enough in the open source world.

Honestly? I can't believe you just said that. Instead of blaming the alleged lack of software on Linux, why not ask your employer to fund development? And lobby against Microsoft when they hijack standards bodies and prevent open software from becoming compatible.

I have personally funded development too. Have been an open source fan since almost 1.5 decades. But for an individual user, there just isn't any Office suite that is open source that can make the cut. Have spoken on forums about this... nothing seems to happen.

Unless you can list some real "missing" features, you're just going to sound like you're complaining for the sake of it. Without any real basis for doing so.

I just did, but you missed it... SmartArt, for one. High quality built-in themes, fonts and color combinations, for another. Ability to edit pictures in Presentation...

Fonts can be bought. Themes, yes. There missing. Editing images isn't really a deal breaker with the GIMP. Editing an image externally isn't that big a deal. Art work may be missing, but can surely be bought. At the end of the day, you can always make it work. If you want to.

Fonts generally don't look as good in LO docs as they do in MSO. Editing images is quick in mso, with a huge range of options. Doing it in GIMP etc. and then xferring takes almost double time. SmartArt is the biggest deal-breaker for me. Anyway, not much more to say.. Thanks.
