I ask these questions because last week I formed an idea about using wrist rotation as a steerable interface on an index of human knowledge.

The transaction costs of interacting with devices are both mechanical and social.

Hopefully the apparent nervous twitch localised to your wrist would not be a give away...!

(jokes obv.) That could be made subtle. I think it is probably possible to create a prototype of this right now.

You could ignore the preliminary problems I foresee with choosing the domain of knowledge quickly and just move ahead with interfacing.

I guess what is exciting about this idea is that it wasn't possible at all before the creation of smart watches that could detect movement.

@sebinsua Sensor under wrist could detect contraction even without any change of pose. Channel capacity problems but better at social/snoop.

@othercriteria This is interesting. I guess there is some medical research relating to this kind of thing?

@othercriteria What is interesting (and currently out of reach to my brain) is that bandwidth would be asymmetric.

@othercriteria Binary responses is obviously exaggeration but the low bandwidth of the HCI would definitely be encumbering.

@othercriteria Interesting thing about 20Q is that it shows asking the right questions removes some of the burden.

@sebinsua In that framework, you’re not aiming for the usual 50% right/wrong. You shotgun questions so that user signals at about max rate.
