@hibikir1 Yes. But it depends on whether impact makes you happy, increases your pleasure, security against death, removes discomfort, etc.

@hibikir1 "It doesn't matter what you think" if I'm not impacting is wrong to me. I gain utility from evaluative beliefs without action too.

@sebinsua But you have freedom somewhere else to make that evaluation matter. Otherwise, your mind is completely invisible to the rest of us

@hibikir1 My central point is that if you no longer feel a great need for pleasure and can afford pain and insecurity core beliefs collapse.

@sebinsua Aren't pleasure maximization and pain avoidance just motivations? If nothing matters, there is little space for beliefs.

@hibikir1 Yes. It is a strange thought anyway. I am not actually without those motivations; definitely not. Just aware they created beliefs.

@hibikir1 We sometimes choose our motivations - even core ones. When we fixate on or temper them we could modify beliefs off them.

@hibikir1 Maybe beliefs are crystallised projections of motivations.

@hibikir1 It wouldn't necessarily be a good idea to throw away beliefs because our motivations changed as we share them with others.

@sebinsua Yeah, beliefs have also a signaling component. Failing to change beliefs leads to unhappiness though. A balancing act

@hibikir1 Yes. I was thinking about thirst as a motivation to happiness because I had a drink in front of me.

@hibikir1 No balancing act there but the paradox that while I was controlling my thirst by drinking I was actually giving in to it.

@hibikir1 Some thirsts are quite important. Thirst for water is obviously very different from thirst for chocolate or fame.
