Real life intimacy is proxemic. Aided by technology such as walls, carrots, sticks, etc. It's also physical.

At best the virtual is mapped to what is real. But we still over-rely on active intent. Passive intent signals exist in greater quantity.

Basically social networks defeated resource locality by indexing people and then turned intimacy into a mechanical process.
