    Sys/PL papers are so painful — The designs can’t always be clean because they interact with real things. The evals are painful because you have to work with complicated tools. It takes SO LONG to get to a reasonable, cohesive story. But there’s nothing else I’d rather do.

    . shared a lovely story with me today, about gender and Java. She was teaching a CS class, where students had to make a Java class for Person. They all made the "gender" field a string. Not a bool, not an emum, but a string. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤

    Wow the healthcare system teaches me really important lessons like don’t break your wrist at 2.30am or we’ll charge you hundreds of dollars for medical assistance you need. I’m glad that I can be taught these lessons so I don’t develop a false sense of safety...

    I feel like a lot of US citizens don’t quite get how hard it is to get an immigrant visa even if you are super qualified—many friends/family have struggled w the H1-B lottery or spent months applying for an O1 or got denied entry even though they have MIT degrees/great jobs/etc

    The SIGARCH & TCCA chairs have stated that there was “no evidence of misconduct as part of the paper review process” at ISCA '19. This evidence shows misconduct at ISCA '19. So far that misconduct appears to have occurred after acceptance decisions were made.
