I mean... Philip Roth’s THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA (2004) doesn’t actually deal with reality television, but describes an alternate history in which a charismatic celebrity w/ no political background becomes president on a nationalist platform.

I can’t point to a specific bit of commentary, but there was a genuine only-semi-ironic moral panic that reality TV would be the downfall of our culture. I’m sure you could find some cultural critics drawing a line from there to politics.
