Most people would have considered 9/11 and the 2008 financial crisis the most important events of the 2000s, and both had far more to do with Trump's election than "The Apprentice" did.

Both of them are obviously more important than The Apprentice. But while they made it possible for someone to fill the slot that Trump eventually entered, I think The Apprentice was key to allowing Trump to be that someone.

People knew it was a significant moment in entertainment, but I don't remember anyone prescient enough to suggest it would help propel someone into the White House. (But maybe someone did, either seriously or satirically. If so, props to the prophet.)
