two takes on the @chesaboudin @micsolana @michelletandler debate so far
a) props to Chesa for engaging on a hostile platform (Solana had opened by calling DSA members "literal marxists and communists")

b) this is why journalism is a career. Solana didn't come across as objective, and didn't have great sourcing and tried to cite Wikipedia, and Chesa was able to weasel around his time in Venezuela.

if you're wondering which type of ppl are facilitating the call, Chesa was just asked for his "KPIs" and what type of policies would "improve NPS" (not criticizing this, just amused)

Chesa addresses residential burglary cases: in 2020, the DA's office filed charges in 72% of 285 residential burglary cases the police brought them. He says that this carries a strike and 6 years in prison, and that the real problem was police only solved 11% of reported cases.

Chesa getting into the weeds of data access: SF Superior Court has some relevant data, using a DOS-based mainframe system that Chesa is unable to query. A multiyear process has been underway to upgrade... called "JUSTIS"... with quarterly meetings...

btw, imo criminal justice and specifically prosecution is not the top issue facing SF. NIMBYism/lack of housing production and our incredibly-slow decision-making process are. the speakers mentioned this before Chesa took over, but interested folks have avenues to get involved:

folks interested in improving SF governance: * join
@SFyimby & other local groups. * vote in every election up and down the ballot * attend supervisor and committee meetings (which are now remote!) and advocate growth!1 reply 0 retweets 14 likesShow this thread
evidence of @chesaboudin's extraordinary ability as a politician and a speaker
at the beginning of the call, a host says he's worked for Chavez and insinuates he's a radical
90 min in, the other host gushes: so glad to have you here tonight and hearing all this detail from you

Replying to @notechbarak @barakgila
I think that was just an attempt to mollify him so that he’d come back again. Especially now that the hosts have a better idea of what to expect so they can prepare accordingly.
