Note that this isn’t an appeal to keep outdoor mask mandates so much as it is to consider which NPI make sense and what the tradeoffs and outcomes look like. You could very well do that and decide to ditch outdoor masks

Please tell me this is not a subtweet in support of outdoor mask mandates

I’m fine with being more stringent with NPIs that actually have some efficacy

Thank you. Lay person here who is 3 weeks out from dose 2, maintaining all precautions. It is may be overkill but it doesn’t bother me and adds to my feeling that I am safe, that my likelihood of getting sick is decreasing, & I am modeling good behavior for my 14 yr. old.

yeah, states (and individuals but hard to see what can be done about that) dropping NPIs as vaccination was starting but far from widespread was insane. It's much easer psychologically to really hunker down with a clear end in sight. At least that was the case for me personally.

Every argument re: removing NPIs talks about “places with low levels of viral transmission” but where are these places in the US?
-
Exactly. And cases are going up now in the majority of the country, not down.

Yep we could really knock the virus down, instead of perpetual purgatory
