You’re confused. You insinuate that race based privilege don’t exist. ALL privilege is a consequence of the world we live in, and we can’t sweep our historically horrible race relations under the rug and act like everyone has a clean slate when so many have yet to overcome biases
-
-
-
But the real attributes of 'privilege' are things like attractiveness, height, intelligence, disposition .. Race is a much broader spectrum – and much more complicated – and is only used so much because it's easier to build resentment and divide people over.
-
For America, that resentment was built up long before our generation - again, privilege is a consequence of that, but because segregation isn’t in the law books, many young ppl act as there are no lasting effects of that legacy on our collective community to address as neighbors.
-
The resentment's only been stoked with 8 years of identity politics .. It's people who've never been slaves wanting reparations from people whose ancestors never owned them (95% of white America) .. It doesn't work. “A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither.”
-
People act as if its only been this bad for about eight years. Demonstrably false. Also your assessment is incomplete. You cant look at it as just being about slavery. Examine segregation, and racist backlash of post-segregation America not only by individuals but by institutions
-
Just an example: after Brown vs Board of Education, which is regularly celebrated today as a great victory for civil rights, half the black teachers in the south were fired to avoid discomfort of having white children be taught by them. Financially affected a whole generation.
-
People are alive to today that remember that, among so many other injustices. Let us not act like we are so far removed from a reality where these biases actively affect the balance of power with race as a determining factor. Treat everybody with respect for their circumstances.
-
How long must the Germans make reparations to the Jews? What do the English owe the Scots? The Romans to the Gauls? Everyone’s ancestors have been screwed over by someone. Unless you are a direct victim of active discrimination, it’s on you to overcome it.

I had an episode of psychosis last year. I wondered around my neighborhood doing some weird stuff I can't remember. The police were called. I got taken to a hospital & stayed in a psyche ward for three days. Had I not been white, you & I wouldn't be having this conversation.
-
In the US, my white skin garuanteed my survival. Black and brown men have been killed for much less than what I've been told I did that day.
-
I'm glad you said this to him. You clearly get systemic inequality. Minecraft dude sadly seems to have no clue about it.
-
Black people are sentenced for much longer terms than white people. And have almost 80 percent of Police-Civilian Interactions, that number increases to 95 percent when discussing a shooting. OK. Now replace Black with Male and White with Female, and then it becomes the truth.

American society once had physical laws to hold people back and no financial reparations for the slave trade. Leaving entire generations of people without ANYTHING just because of their race and background. It still affects a lot of people today.
-
Blanket statements, yeah not cool. Assuming someone's life is going to turn up a certain way because of the color of their skin, also not cool. But you fail to keep account for the fact that if say, an industry has been founded in 1 race it will have trouble integrating others.
-
On top of it all there are a lot of concepts that are not even talked about between all the different races in our country. That's a concept that is hard 2 explain, only experienced. Experiences are everything when it boils down to privilege. Everyone has levels of privilege
-
Cherrypicking the people who don't properly grasp this concept and saying that it's racist is pretty irresponsible. lacks detail. How privilege benefits/faults us depends on so many, many factors, race included. Add insight, not more ignorance.
-
I just really expected a lot better from you, back in the day really thought you were a smart guy. I don't know what's twisted you and warped you into this reactionary, bitter person but I just think it's really irresponsible. Maybe you've always been this way.
-
Hey he might’ve been smart in game development. That doesn’t mean he’s going to have any idea what he’s talking about in other cases. Look at the statements of the inventor of the PCR (who won a novel prize). Notch is a pretty ignorant lil dude now.
-
Clearly. But what I don't understand is if you're so indifferent about all this then why is he constantly talking about it? Ask questions and stop making statements. If you're confused on something, why drag your followers into your '''musings'''? Ask someone...
-
I know right. No one is blaming white people for being white. If anyone is arguing that someone should feel bad because they're black they're being stupid. Movements like
#BLM aren't anti white. - 3 more replies
