I like how you can keep playing Sim City even when it notifies you that the servers are down. (But I thought it REALLY needed them?)

Yep. Plus, cities are so small that if you want to add some advanced structures you have to spend 6 hours building another city.

Just means your progress may be at risk if you exit while they're down. I think.

It was obviously marketing lies, if they had the power of a server doing the math the pathfinding wouldn't be so bloody awful.

the game has a limited fault tolerance so that if your connection drops you don't get kicked out of the game.
