@notch

I love you even if you disagree with me. I'll be rude, sure, but I still love you.

    I like how you can keep playing Sim City even when it notifies you that the servers are down. (But I thought it REALLY needed them?)

        @notch and then when the servers are available, they randomly roll back your city. I already lost two big cities by roll backs :(

        @notch Just means your progress may be at risk if you exit while they're down. I think.

        @Scapes You missed the point. Maxis are claiming it's essential and they can't let you play offline. They got caught out in a big lie.

        @notch the game has a limited fault tolerance so that if your connection drops you don't get kicked out of the game.

        @MaxisScott @notch I assume what happens is that it just stops updating some simulation variables until the connection is reestablished?

        @notch Yep. Plus, cities are so small that if you want to add some advanced structures you have to spend 6 hours building another city.

        @notch It was obviously marketing lies, if they had the power of a server doing the math the pathfinding wouldn't be so bloody awful.

        @Fyllm @notch Incredibly true, sick to bloody death of my fire trucks all driving in circles around one fire especially with 3 others going.

      @notch If they are down, you can't quit the game (or you lose everything you've done when the servers are down).

      @notch If you quit Origin while playing, it will tell you that it will synchronize again the next time it launches (and then it quits too).

      @notch It does. NEW region stuff won't work when you're DCed. You get a region snapshot basically. And you lose your changes unless sync

      @notch Carefully, that is why my city had to be rolled back and I lost about 4 hours of "work".
