My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

Do you think people can be redeemed or change? I'm not sure what the point of a prison system is if we can't at least make good effort at allowing people chances at new beginnings.

It doesn't matter if he redeems himself or changes. A crime like that is unforgiveable, full stop.

Do you think he should have been put to death? I ask, because I don't understand the point of life without parole. It seems we should either commit to remove people permanently or view punishment as something that is paid and then the people rejoin society.
