My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.
People are generally released at some point. Do you think we should punish them post-release? I would think it is beneficial to society that anyone who has served their time rejoin in some productive manner. That to me is a new beginning, no?

My comment was meant to be interpreted with a wee more nuance than the actual question posed. But I understand if you're all or nothing. Sure, a prison system is to punish. But majority of prisoners are released. What do you think the most effective approach to recidivism is?
