    I am interested in literature about why (this) pain seems to be taboo. What are the social pressures around not showing pain? Is it about not seeming weak? So many people as i am talking about back pain come forward and empathize because they've been there. And i never knew. 4/n

    Is it just that people are way stronger than i am and can take the pain? (some of it is up there with giving birth, in my case, and I screamed loud enough while giving birth) 3/n

    I wonder what makes people not talk about it. It is crippling, demoralizing and altogether infuriating and yet people seem to just decide not to complain. Is it a social construct? Pain isn't allowed? Is it because it is invisible? People think no one will believe them? 2/n

    I'm learning about pain in a weird way. For the first time in my life I'm experiencing severe back/leg pain (diagnosed cruralgia) and as I talk about it around me I realize that excruciating back pain seems to be as taboo as it is common. 1/n
