I have experienced this first hand. It doesn’t matter that I’m not “pure” Chinese in ethnicity. What mattered was they saw I was trying to keep the traditions alive… even if my mandarin must sound funny

Malcolm X has a great quote similar to this in his autobiography. I can’t remember it word for word so I don’t wanna butcher it, but it’s the similar concept.

Modern China is accepting of a diversity of people, including Chinese from the diaspora. Further back, Marco Polo was welcomed, and before that the troops from the Crassus' lost Roman legion were taken in and employed as frontier garrison soldiers.
