When I created a Chinese character for one of my books I called him Yu Zhang. I just looked up common names and went "yes I like that one". Honestly I don't get the big deal over Cho Chang so I really hope I haven't done the same.

Cho is a Japanese name or Korean surname, Chang is her Mandarin surname, and her ethnicity is Chinese/Irish. It was never stated that a parent was Japanese/Korean, nor liked Japanese/Korean names. Jk just put 2 east Asian names together without any further consideration.

I used to work with a guy whose name was Fanki Wang. He was pretty awesome. Played into the joke of what it sounded like in english. Wanted us to call him funk for short.
