but Bayesians are working on this:https://intelligence.org/2016/04/21/two-new-papers-uniform/ …
I know about that work, and don’t think it’s relevant…
"Logical Coherence" seems to directly address @nostalgebraist 's objection, at any rate (though I like other parts of that post).
I see no connection. I suspect you misunderstand what one or the other is about (but I could be wrong, of course).
does @nostalgebraist think these two results are equally useless as the other one, though?
i actually haven't looked at those 2 papers, largely bc they got bad external reviews in the openphil eval http://files.openphilanthropy.org/files/Grants/MIRI/consolidated_public_reviews.pdf …
+ at the time of that eval, the LI paper was not yet published and MIRI said it would be "more impressive" than those others
(see http://www.openphilanthropy.org/focus/global-catastrophic-risks/potential-risks-advanced-artificial-intelligence/machine-intelligence-research-institute-general-support#Potential_for_improvement … ) so if i was not impressed w LI paper i figured those others were not worth looking at in detail
