If Facebook & Google we’re banned from being able to target ads using their vast trove of personal data, we’d also have taken a huge step towards restoring competitive markets in internet advertising. Their unfair advantage would be wiped out. And they’d have to actually compete.

The problem is many users are not technical, they don’t know what Google is doing, they think that ads are organic (they don’t even know there’s a difference betweek organic and paid). Likewise, they don’t know about different search engines
I really hate this. Always trying to click the normal link. Sadly duckduckgo was not good enough for me. Really tried to switch.

Agreed. Google is evil. Marketing is a war of escalation, being arm twisted into paying a "search" engine to avoid your customers and potential customers being shoveled into either a competitor trading off your name or scam sites is pretty low.https://youtu.be/tHEOGrkhDp0
I've been using duckduckgo as my primary search engine for a few years now. No regrets.
