"As reported by The Globe and Mail, residents spent a total of $181 million at curbside patios within 13 weeks of summer in 2021. If those spaces had remained dedicated to parking, only $3.7 million would have been reaped during the same time period."

Mandates have created more parking than can be used even on the busiest shopping day of the year. Rather than allow all the vacant pavement to make parking minimums look *foolish* or *wasteful* we made this advertising campaign to get people to park more! #BlackFridayParking

One of my hottest takes on architecture & design is that buildings like this would be much more accepted - if not enjoyed - if they were only 25 or 50 feet wide, as opposed to spreading out across entire blocks

There is a shortage in skilled trades and labor, meaning that the process of building homes now takes longer than before, which is a significant problem considering our housing needs. Host @abbykatkc and guest @normvep discuss on this week's Upzoned.

These are new apartment buildings. We could see new homes like these in every Vancouver neighborhood within a few years. All we need do is elect a mayor & council committed to #EndTheApartmentBan by reforming outdated zoning. #vanpoli

"We need to open up our zoning bylaws to allow more people to flourish on their own properties, in homes that meet their needs. Allowing detached accessory dwelling units to be constructed, would go a long way toward allowing people to age in place."

Lately I've been saying the phrase "From car required, to car optional" as a way to describe the movement to lessen car dependency in the U.S. For me a small victory is taking families that have multiple cars down to one. Car lite living is progress.

When we take the long view of being an active presence in our localities, we start to see small acts of neighbourliness for what they are: gestures that, in the immediate, offer goodwill, hospitality, and connection and that, over time, have a cumulative impact on our places.
