Wait, is this bink and or smacker? I thought ffmpeg already supported those...

Not those, but Smacker is the right era. And yes, ffmpeg supports those (and most codecs!) nowadays. This format is obscure enough (I think only 3 games used it) that no-one else implemented it yet; I'm expecting/hoping that one of my followers will recognize one of the clips.

On2 True Motion ?

No, but that's also a good guess! It does at least have some similarities to TrueMotion-S/V1, which is from about the same time.

Nope, and I guess/hope flic is already well-supported by ffmpeg and many other tools :) One of the non-interactive game demos I'm using for samples contains a mix of these video files (for FMV) and flic files (for gameplay video), though, so again it's the right kind of era.

Some artifacts in my decoded video are really bad, quite a few spots where there is a *good* frame for a second and then it degrades into noisy blocks the next (almost identical) frame. Unfortunately the original decoder does the same, so I guess it's their encoder. ><

what codec is the audio tho?

-
Just raw 8-bit 22050khz PCM, I think they probably ran out of CPU budget for any audio compression :)
