Surprised there aren't more period pieces on Napoleon. Good case that he's one of the top 5 most important figures in history. His rise to power was ruthless, his military acumen was almost impossibly genius, and he came within a hair of bringing all of Europe under this thumb.

I mean... I'd watch the Netflix series, y'know?

I'd watch something that is *watchable*. You want a good speech written on Napoleon's foreign policy, I'm your guy. You want a good series written about important historical events, @johnorloff is your guy (and then some). https://twitter.com/Twinkle19631/status/1344698202046414850?s=20 …

Everybody kept waiting for the Kubrick version that never came.

I remember hearing about this, too. Rod Steiger wasn't it, although Ian Holm in Time Bandits wasn't bad.

Napléon (2002) remains the best one I've seen. The whole series is free on YouTube here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjc_DrGpkew …

No I was thinking more of an anti-hero like Tony Soprano. I'd watch the hell out of that.

Was he brilliant though? His Russia escapade seems (with hindsight) to be a decadent waste of humanity.

He got lazy his last few years, it’s very clear. Through 1807 or so, he was a genius.
