hear some people dunking on CAL FIRE. Maybe not the best tact. Those guys are risking life and limb fighting fires all over the state right now, and only gave their best expert advice about the prospects of a successful rescue. That’s what made the crews’ actions so heroic.

I know a guy who did something similar under heavy fire in Vietnam. Chopper pilots, man. Tough breed.

Thank you! Need more good stories. Army pilots have more training and air equipment, so wouldn't blame CAL FIRE using caution based on limitation.

Since the army had evacuated other campers, I wonder why CAL FIRE did not call the army to see if they could evacuate. It’s easy to question when you’re not on the ground. I’m just thrilled the army had the ability and equipment to make this happen.
