2020 for me so far has been the year of creative keyword muting and WOW is my timeline better Turns out I am in a much better mood when 90% of “breaking news” is vaporized before it hits me! Most if not all of it will keep until my Designated News Consumption Time(s) anyway.

👀 ...I am reading the Wikipedia article and I may just have to get my hands on that analysis by Philip Nel. Sounds exciting

Picture book cover: “Two Bad Ants” by Chris Van Allsburg. Two nearly-identical indigo-colored ants stand upright on their four back legs and have slung one front limb each over the other’s shoulder in a companionable way. The ink work is very bold, almost woodblock-print looking.

I absolutely love these, they remind me of Chris Van Allsburg’s mesmerizing illustrations in “Two Bad Ants”

Science dream crushing is a process that, as if by natural selection, results in BETTER AND HEARTIER DREAMS. Why settle for an easy-sounding but unachievable dream when you can have a dream that’s hard but real and awesome?

I feel like running across “Frank in the House of the Dead” in my parents’ comics was some kind of formative experience for me can’t really explain it, but it’s true – This message brought to you by Evening Thoughts™

The comics panel is from “Frank’s Real Pa” by Jim Woodring. I stumbled on Frank and his vivid black-and-white world (and that scheming, tortured Manhog) when I was a young teen, and it has all remained firmly lodged in my brain since that time.

I was minding my own business eating my animal cracker afternoon snack and, uh, OK, unexpected Manhog

An animal cracker of a pig (probably). The face is strangely human, especially due to the pointed ears at human ear position.
A comics panel featuring Manhog, from “Frank’s Real Pa,” by Jim Woodring. Manhog is fleeing off to the right as Frank looks on from the background. Manhog is a slightly hairy, naked, pig-bodied character with human arms and legs, who runs on all fours. He has a pig nose and ears in a human face. Kind of upsetting.
