Last bit of Micheál Martin’s speech most significant. Effectively, Taoiseach’s 3 week warning to the Irish people: unless actions & numbers change, then in his words “more comprehensive lockdown” will follow.

So many of us across the nation will be more sad than we can say at this news. As a wise person once said: “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle of which you know nothing.”

Interesting to see covering the issue of Direct Provision today, focusing in on Cahersiveen. "Amid the pandemic, a group of asylum seekers was moved to a small, rural Irish town. Then they started testing positive for Covid-19"

Stop wearing latex gloves around town everyone!!!! These gloves are designed to be worn for single tasks, then removed and hands washed. Wearing them for prolonged periods will enhance the risk of microbes growing on your hand surfaces and also add to the spread of microbes

Figures around potential spread of are daunting & highlight not only why social distancing is important but why a lockdown needs to happen ASAP. Below based on Italy's ICU rate of 9% & WHO's mortality rate of 3.4% and then applying it to the Irish population.

ECDC say 6% of those who contract experience critical illness. If applied to yesterday's reports of 1.9 million people here potentially contracting Covid-19, that equates to 114,000 people needing an ICU bed. There are around 250 ICU beds in our system. (1/4)
