if you like finite and infinite games I highly recommend reading more about transaction analysis, which theorizes that human interactions occur in set patterns called games where the implicit motive often differs from the explicit motive. i.e. “wanna come in for coffee?”pic.twitter.com/96dHpLFNMA

“playing games” isn’t used in a pejorative sense here bc all interactions that aren’t part of sustained intimacy are games (small talk at a party, saying hi to your neighbor, reoccurring arguments with your spouse) but it’s v helpful to be able to recognize unhealthy games

there are ego states involved (parent, adult, child) but really all you need to know is that people who play healthy games basically act as “adults” (i.e. give the response that’s in touch with objective reality) most of the time. which in my opinion makes perfect sensepic.twitter.com/997jHGrIaf

Still kinda stunned that nobody makes the connection between Carse and the remarks in Wittgenstein's PI e.g. §7 and §§198-202 can't get much interest for logical-sciencing game theory after seeing that

^ agree & highly recommend "Games People Play" as a good intro, or "What Do You Say After You Say Hello?" for the long full version

Every time I think of “what do people do after they say hello” - the book and sometimes even when people say hello irl - I think of snav.
