“radical honesty” is actually pretty hard because we’re so used to language being gamified that even if you say exactly what you feel people will generally presume you must be implying something else

many of my friends are so good at narrativizing that it can be very hard to talk "directly" with them, which occasionally distresses me because I think excessive gaming of conversation suggests you don’t believe you can honestly advocate for your needs & get what you want

if you don't believe you can be direct, you in turn believe that other people also can't possibly be direct which leads to all kinds of weird projection

Ah man I hit this one bad a few months after I started an experiment about replying truthfully to anyone who wanted to know something about me

If social convention is question -> nicety(thing) and you start doing question -> thing then it isn't just easier for everyone, they often think you're doing question -> nicety(worse thing)

I was gonna say Californian in Massachusetts here and yep it’s the opposite, people will think you’re a weirdo if you *aren’t* radically honest.

Radical Honesty is akin to having someone insist that you address them informally.

Especially in the US. Euphemisms _everywhere_. As a European living in the US, I’ve gotten into trouble more times than I can count when I was just candid and honest. Gotta add that sugar coating, email header and smileys to every message.

Thanks god, I am not the only one who felt this way. From my experience the problem with that is it extends even outside of the US e.g satellite offices at larger international companies. Personally, I prefer working the "European" way and overall IMO creates a better culture.
