do you ever meet people who are just so clearly superior at identifying the right way to approach every situation that you’re like “ok fuck individuality lemme just recalibrate 40% of my behavior to be more like you”

It's like virtue ethics, competence edition. ("What would Jesus do if Jesus were a high-functioning senior PM")

Tbh my husband is SUCH a good decision maker and so level headed and has excellent foresight and I waffle between the 60% recalibration model and absolutely refusing to do anything he suggests I do because I am INDEPENDENT and maybe DUMB!!

It may be so, it may be not. Nevertheless, your husband is lucky to have a wife that thinks so highly of him. He surely knows it, too. Good omens for your marriage. Best of luck!

Those that are just naturals make me feel bad. Those that learned it through experience, give me hope that I can be better.

How can you tell if it's natural or through experience?

I actually think this is a trainable skill(s). It requires some amount of being able to lay out a decision tree, having a firm grasp of game theory when dealing with others, and being willing to walk away from a negotiation table.

They're probably like this from watching other people good at what they do and recalibrating.

All the time. My PhD advisor was also like that, to the extent that I noticed (much later) that I even picked up many of his verbal tics -- like "that's trueeeee"

David Bowie said in an interview that he took the best parts of the most amazing people he knew, like changing the insides of a car. Happens all the tine to me.
