I have so many feelings and hangups around responding to people and like composing the right email or w/e which I think is the norm for most and a product of the world we live in but I am so deeply jealous of & amazed by people who are good at this

My theory is that they are busy/in demand *because* they are so reactive. Also maybe applying the 2' rule (if a task takes 2' to complete then do it now, not later)

Maybe a vicious/virtuous circle? I have a mental "stack", plus email and calendar "stacks", so it's always a constant game of whack-a-mole, where the weight of the stacks outweighs context switching.

What do you think is the main barrier? For me, I often think "I need to gather more info before I reply" or think more about the reply, then the moment is lost.

People having good boundaries re: their time and attention is admirable too!

Yeah I usually just wait to reply to messages for no particular reason other than that it creates the perception that I have nothing going on except wait for people to talk to me

I do this all the time. The trick is to keep your inbox at 0 the whole time. Mark important email as unread until you respond to them. Also be strategic on how to reply to the email itself, if it can be resolved in a single reply do so to avoid unnecessary chain back and forth.

Sometimes I wonder if these people's mental 'stack' works differently i.e. they always do the most recent task instead of procrastinating like the rest of us
