A lot of my friends in their 20's and 30's are self-quarantining, and yet we're hearing stories about elderly who are disregarding the warnings and going out regardless. So it cuts both ways.

It does ... but I've def heard a fair # of troubling refrains re: "most of the people who are at risk are old/sick and would probably die pretty soon anyway"

Huge difference in how Asian v. American peers/friends have handled COVID-19, can even see it in considerations of staying with parents for an extended period. At risk of overly broad generalization: for Americans, "embarrassing" post-18y/o and totally normal for Asians.

three different and unrelated indian friends of mine have offered to help my parents (in the bay area, where i'm not) get groceries safely. an indian girl in our building posted a cute note to the same effect. 0 such offers from white people. not complaining, just interesting.

Generational tension in the US is real.. there’s a perception among gen z that boomers “started it” and now gen z is getting fed up. Totally unnecessary to bring race into it

I hate the term "Boomer remover"

That mindset probably has more to do with the fact that multiple generations are forced to stay in perpetual adolescence while the elderly hoard all the power and authority until they die.

Kinda hard to respect people who mortgaged your future. Instead of respect they get 5% of my paycheck

I suspect that a good portion of the elderly contributed to their own demise: - Not respecting the freedom of their (or other) children - Not respecting the opinions of the children - Dictating how one should live - Threatening them in various ways - Physically hurting sometimes
-
Yes, all of them are still present in the world, some more than others, some very widespread. I don't defend those who don't respect the elderly, though, not even the hurt ones. People should be better than that. I try to contribute to the understanding.
