dating advice should be centered less around signaling self-sufficiency/coolness and more abt “what should we talk about to figure out whether we can remain both emotionally exciting and emotionally reliable to each other in a world of near-unlimited optionality”

chill guys by “near-unlimited optionality” I mean “endless access to dating apps” not unlimited personal optionality 😂

Has anyone read any good books on the subject? I think a lot of the books you're talking about are really for people who need to focus on becoming healthy/attractive (level of non-neediness), whereas this is sort of the next step of assessing long-term compatibility.

yeah I’ve read a lot of PUA books as well as a lot of “he’s just not that into you”-type books and I agree they can be helpful for a certain demographic but it’s frustrating there’s nothing more sophisticated for people who don’t need that kind of advice

You just need common interests to bootstrap to the point where you have kids. Then both of you have one really absorbing hobby in common for at least the next two decades.

people who think in terms of "near unlimited optionality" may not be the most emotionally reliable!

It takes a remarkable lack of self awareness to tweet something like this as a woman in SF

It's funny, I was watching "love is blind," and thinking My God these people have no idea how to vet a spouse for themselves...truth is, irl most people don't know how to do that either.

Not sure about the how but in Algorithms to Live By https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_9772622 … you should choose how long you want to look, spend 37% calibrating and then find the next best thing and commit immediately. I’m sure Nash (game theory) will smile at you too
