CBT taught me to control my emotions through the conscious modification of negative thoughts when what I really needed was to have more insight into why I felt bad and understand that I’m distinct from my thoughts/feelings (and therefore it’s okay to experience negative ones)

this is all subjective/anecdotal btw but I was a super sensitive/intense kid when I discovered CBT and found it incredibly effective (I’ve read probably 20+ books on it...) but now realize the ability to stop all your negative thoughts in their tracks is not without a cost
