this sounds ridiculous but I’ve had terrible allergies my whole life so I’ve basically never had a sense of smell and recently I got a nasal spray that actually works and I can SMELL THINGS NOW and it’s blowing my mind

like now I’ll walk into sephora or a uber or a restaurant and just be inmediately assaulted by scents which are sometimes awful or give me a headache or are amazing which never ever happened before

this feels like being nearsighted as a kid and then one day your mom takes you to the optometrist and then they give you classes and the whole world literally snaps into focus and trees aren't furry green blobs anymore and you're like... what??

I always thought the whole thing around flowers smelling wonderful was just a weird cultural construct (to me they smelled very mildly pleasant but I could barely smell them unless it was like a bunch of lilies in a tiny room) BUT NOW I REALIZE I just had no sense of smell lol

to be clear I had some sense of smell, it was just greatly diminished (like when your nose is pretty stuffy but not totally), but yeah I expect that food is going to taste different now as well! I do think I've never been super sensitive to tastes either probably for this reason
