the total lack of good non-hormonal IUD options in the US is outdated and upsetting—it’s insane to me that even though we *have the technology* all new options will be stuck in clinical trials for ~5 more years and your best option is to fly to Belgium to get the Gynefix

It’s totally “ripe for disruption” except a startup could never make it through the many years it would take to get to market with an IUD... so we’re left with birth control delivery apps and stuff like Natural Cycles (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/jul/21/colossally-naive-backlash-birth-control-app …) = extremely not reassuring

also ridiculous that the default option, hormonal birth control, *literally alters who you’re attracted to* (https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/xwjngw/birth-control-might-change-who-women-feel-attracted-to …). as people in sf love to bring up: your choice of life partner is basically the most important choice you can make.

“The industry funnels only 2% of annual revenue from contraceptives back into research and development ... about $100 million, less than a sixth of what a company might spend to bring a single cancer drug to market.”https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-08/better-birth-control-exists-but-big-pharma-isn-t-interested …

women today shouldn’t have to use the same birth control methods that our grandmothers did
